Walking along the beach at sunset is one of life’s simplest, most elegant and soothing experiences. It enriches one’s soul.
But if you prefer sitting in a nice, Gulf-side restaurant for a late happy hour or eating a fine meal while watching the sunset we have that, too, right here on Fort Myers Beach.

The Salty Crab Bar & Grill is a favorite of tourists and locals, alike. Right in the heart of all Fort Myers Beach activity at Times Square, the Salty Crab has a fresh, new look and a wonderful new menu. Just a short distance down the beach from Times Square is the heralded Fresh Catch Bistro lounge & raw bar, another fantastic place for dining, Happy Hour and watching the sun set slowly into the Gulf. “Indulge in a great bottle of wine, a fine bourbon or scotch and the best food and service on Fort Myers Beach,” proclaims the restaurant. “We at Fresh Catch Bistro work tirelessly to ensure your dining experience is simply the the best!”
With a lovely menu, Fresh Catch Bistro is a wonderful spot to gather with friends and family for the sunset, libations and fine dining.
Of course, what vacation on Fort Myers Beach would be complete without watching a sunset from the famous Sun Deck at Lani Kai Resort. (Or, for that matter, breakfast or lunch?) The Sun Deck is quite simply one of those “must” stops on any Fort Myers Beach vacation. A fine menu and sunset Happy Hour specials, the Sun Deck also features a regular calendar of entertainment and live music.
Just a bit further on down the beach at the Snook Bight Yacht Club & Marina is the lovely Bayfront Bistro. You can walk there. You can drive there. Or, you can take your boat (channel marker 72)! Superb dining which features fresh seafood and a wine list given an award of excellence by Wine Spectator. Executive Chef Eduardo Pieto loves to characterize his style of cooking as “Fusion Cuisine” – borrowing ideas and flavors from different cultures around the world, while using local ingredients as much as possible. The Bayfront Bistro also features daily sunset Happy Hour, as well as brunch on the weekends.

Just across Matanzas Pass and within walking distance (over the bridge) from the beach is Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill.
“Just as my novels are inspired by these islands, my days on the water, and the people I came to know, the spirit of this fine sports bar was inspired by the marine biologist who is the main character of those novels,” explains writer & raconteur Randy Wayne White. “Doc Ford is the baseball-loving, tropical adventurer who – not so surprisingly – has spent a lot of time in the same far flung countries that I wrote about when I was monthly columnist for places such as Cuba, Cambodia, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, Borneo, and all over South and Central America. It was while traveling for Outside and other magazines I came to know and love the superb cuisine of the rural tropics.”
Climbing over the bridge and further south, off Estero Island and down toward Hickory Island and Bonita Beach is a local favorite (and another “Doc”), Doc’s Beach House. It’s truly a “no shirt, no shoes, no problem” kind of place and renowned for its burgers and good times on the beach.
If an adventure into downtown Fort Myers is in the offing for your vacation treats, the sunset place along the Caloosahatchee River is the Firestone Sky Bar, the only rooftop (and sunset) spot in downtown Fort Myers. Sitting atop the most unique, historical four-story building in downtown Fort Myers, visitors get unequaled views of the river, the down river basin and park. And, yes, the entertainment complex draws its name from Harvey Firestone, founder of one of the world’s great companies and BFF with this other guy of whom you may have heard, Thomas Edison. Both titans hung out frequently in Fort Myers with their other BFF, a guy named Henry Ford. You may have heard of him, too. Yea, can you imagine the conversations?
So, yea, we have your sunsets! And, if you hang around sunsets long enough, you’re bound to catch a legendary Green Flash!
